Job Profile / Responsibilities: 

• • Assisting the business (including Global Supply Chain, marketing, sales & distribution, and Leaf etc.) with developing an improved understanding of tobacco and commercial regulations, as well as improved capability to communicate/discuss/align on legal issues in a timely and appropriate manner
    • Advising on commercial law, including contracts and commercial issues
    • Reviewing general commercial contracts (e.g. trading, purchasing, supply, service, distribution agreements, etc.)
    • Advising the business on product or factory (including leaf-related) regulation, including reviewing developments and legislation on relevant legal and regulatory matters and informing the business
    • Advising on packaging and marketing activities
    • Advising on licensing applications and renewals
    • Advising the business on employment, data protection, consumer protection, competition, anti-corruption and bribery and other relevant laws to ensure compliance
  • Assisting the Legal Manager in conducting corporate secretarial duties and advising on corporate governance related issues
  • Assisting in defending the company’s interests and advocating certain corporate positions
  • Assisting in matters related to JTI’s entities in Bangladesh, including corporate governance, leases, contracts, industrial relations and labour matters.
  • Any other responsibilities assigned by the Legal Director from time to time.

Educational Requirements:

• University degree from a reputable University
• Must have at least district court enrollment

Experience : 

• Common law qualified lawyer with 5+ years’ experience

• Previous in-house experience desirable but not essential

Additional Requirements:

• • Excellent communication skills in English and Bengali, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in reviewing general commercial contracts in English and Bengali.
  • Regulatory and/or litigation experience would be desirable.
  • Basic awareness of employment, competition and intellectual property (i.e. trademarks, copyright, etc.) law principles.
  • Ability to understand the business, its strategies, its people and its organization structures
  • Awareness of legal and commercial risks
